Podere Ruggeri Corsini Nebbiolo

The hungriest wine

Made from Nebbiolo, the grape variety of the famous Barolo wines, but from a neighboring region in Northern Italy, Langhe. This is where you can find more affordable and still spectacular expressions of this grape. It’s almost brick red in the glass and looks like iron-rich clay soil. It’s wildly perfumed with tons of raisin, prune, some olive tapenade, and fennel. This wine gushes across the tongue searching for food – in the best way possible. Savagely dry, then becomes like plump raisin-flavored wine-butter with food.

Delicious With

A great wine for the kitchen scrounge – it’ll pair with whatever concoction of protein, veg, starch you can mash together. Simple roast chicken, creamy mushroom risotto, or wood fired pizza. Or, your favorite pasta shape topped with sun-dried tomatoes, fresh spinach, a squeeze of lemon and sardines (wha?!) yes, a good quality canned sardine with this combo is amazing.

Their Cred

This is a love story that resulted in some fabulous wine! Nicola, winemaker, was born in Tuscany and raised in Piedmont. There he met a woman from Sardinia, Lorendana, vineyard manager. They were at the University of Turin together: she was getting a post-graduate degree in viticulture; he a PhD in enology, and they fell completely in love. In 1995 they got married, bought a gorgeous plot of land called Corsini, and started their life together. It lay tucked away in a little valley just north of Monforte d’Alba, a couple of houses and farm buildings surrounded by vines. They walk a really nice line between traditionalists and modernists, meaning that their wines are transparent with clear impressions, while possessing superb drinkability.
